Abstract

This article studies the magnificent classicist baldachin designed by the prominent Aragonese enlightened architect Agustín Sanz Alós in 1791-1792 for the parish church of San Salvador in Murillo de Gállego. It addresses aspects such as the project’s background, its commission, its design, and its problematic subsequent development until it was abandoned and not executed. The artistic analysis of the baldachin will be addressed in a second part of the study, to be published in the next issue of Argensola.
